4 March 2013, Card

The first day of the workshop  we used only ivory board and a scalpel to create structures. I was drawn to the interaction of light on the matte and glossy sides of the material and how by simply turning the sculpture you were left with a remarkably different effect as a result.

Today we worked with wooden beads, paint, thread and thumb tacks. I tried by painting the beads with the paintbrush but preferred to dip the beads into the paint and move them around as well as using my fingers to smudge. For my first piece I looked at how a spider web is woven and used that as an inspiration. For my second piece I followed the shape and curve of the handle on the window.

First day into the workshop we were given a piece of ivory board to work with. We were allowed to use nothing but a scalpel and the card itself. I started looking at spirals and how the design could work with the card. By placing it in different locations I wanted to see how it could interact with its surroundings or whether it could become part of something bigger. The images demonstrate what I came up with.
