"The Base as a sculpture" is something which i found more tangible than creating a piece from the given card. It was my intention to create a piece which could supply an endless source of sculptures , like a factory line. The idea that individuals could create their own pieces from a given set of shapes that could easily be connected together said much more about the base which contained the pieces, while still maintaining an intrinsic link with whatever piece the individual wished to create. Several students from the class completed models from the individual cut pieces, to create their own sculptures. Here are some examples of how people used the pieces given to them. They could use as many or as few pieces as they like in whatever fashion they so choose.
The Material Through Sculpture workshop is intended to take the student on a journey of exploration of material in the broadest sense. The workshop is run by studio tutor Anne Gorman in collaboration with Adrian Duncan an Irish artist who has studied contemporary art theory at NCAD. Adrian also has an engineering background. This year the workshop includes a guest lecture From Carl Burke and contributions from Marta Fernandez Calvo

Stuck in Motion
The initial idea behind this came from the location and finding a place that we could create something that would make more shadows to add depth and being able to sit underneath it. as it developed it began to look like it grew from the pot , or almost as the the wind had blown it out and it was stuck in motion. the backdrop of dead plants created the effect of the canopy of leafs being blown away .d
Gabriel Dawe
Inspired by the creations of Anish Kapoor and Victor Vasarely, Dawe's work developed into huge, viewer absorbing installations made from thousands upon thousands of different colour threads and taking up to 140 hours and four to five weeks to create.
